HushDisk for Android privacy policy
Effective 27 October 2026. HushDisk is developed by Taras Baranyuk. This policy covers the HushDisk Android app, including its Basic edition.
Data stays on your device
HushDisk does not send your containers, passwords, file contents, filenames or app usage to us. The app has no Internet permission, analytics, advertising SDK or automatic crash reporting. You do not need a HushDisk account.
The app imports encrypted containers into its private storage. It stores container labels, settings and recent check results there too. It decrypts file data as needed to serve files to Android's Files app and to applications you select through the document picker. It does not create a complete decrypted disk image for those operations.
Passwords and access
Passwords are not saved unless you choose to remember them. Saved passwords are encrypted with a key managed by Android Keystore. HushDisk and Android may hold working copies of passwords and decrypted data in memory while you use a container.
Lock closes access through HushDisk. Locking the phone does not lock a container; use Lock in the app or configure its inactivity timer. Applications that already opened a file may keep their own plaintext copy or preview. HushDisk cannot remove those copies.
Files you choose to share
Opening or copying a file into another app gives that app access to its contents. Export Encrypted Copy writes an encrypted container to the destination you select. Android's document picker may offer a cloud provider, which can transfer that encrypted file under its own privacy policy. Those providers and other apps handle the information you give them independently of HushDisk.
The website, privacy-policy and source-download links open your browser. The browser and hosting provider receive the normal information needed to serve a web request, such as your IP address. The app does not attach passwords, container identifiers or file contents to those links.
Google Play and Android may separately process installation and diagnostic information under Google's policies and your device or account settings. When the app is distributed through Google Play, we may receive installation statistics or crash reports provided by that store.
Permissions
A foreground service keeps a container available while it is unlocked or completes a container operation you started. Its notification lets you lock the container. Android 13 and later can ask permission to show notifications. File access uses Android's document picker and document provider; HushDisk does not request access to every file on your phone.
Retention and deletion
Local containers and settings remain until you remove them, clear the app's storage or uninstall it. Removing a container deletes HushDisk's private copy. Export an encrypted backup before removing it or changing installations. Android automatic app backup is disabled. Copies you exported or shared remain wherever you put them.
Deleting a file or container is ordinary filesystem deletion, not guaranteed secure erasure. Device storage, snapshots or other apps may retain data. A forgotten password cannot be recovered by us.
Support and changes
If you contact [email protected], your email provider and ours process your message. Support correspondence is used to address your request and retained for that work and follow-up. You can request its deletion at the same address, subject to applicable retention requirements. Do not send passwords or sensitive container contents.
Changes to the app's data handling will be reflected in this policy. The effective date above identifies the current version. For privacy questions, contact [email protected].
